Hi I have a USB mouse that all of a sudden will not work in any USB port. The scroll button on top of the mouse has a light inside and flickers at a fast rate. In device manager, if i plug the mouse in, the device manager list constantly tries to refresh itself as if its trying to install the USB mouse over and over but fails. Where should I start troubleshooting this? I have a PS/2 mouse working correctly in the meantime. 1 of the 6 USB ports gets the mouse to install itself in device manager but the mouse does not move and loses connection there as well.

PS I have tried a few USB mice now, with the same result on this computer.....

I tried plugging in a USB flash drive that I have and it came up perfectly. Could browse files and everything. Power issue?

sounds like you might have a problem with the usb bus itself.

try downloading and reinstalling the drivers for your motherboard.

if it is an expansion usb card, find and reinstall the drivers for it.

my first guess would be check the batteries. second, your usb card may have gone bad. that would cause all of the usb ports to not work. to troubleshoot that, try connecting something else by usb to see if anything would work in the usb ports.

Likely, you need to forget using a USB mouse. You ports and/or system can't handle them. Continue using the PS/2.
