Well I was a week late! My husband took 1 week of FULL leave and then he worked for 2 weeks just half days. 1 week before I was induced and 1 week after his 1 week of leave. He's military and had it worked out with his boss.
Its hard to give a date because you don't really know when the baby is coming. It could be 4 weeks early or 2 weeks late! Good luck

I'd see if he can't get more than two weeks.
We've gone back and forth on this; he can get quite a bit of paternity leave, so...
And, as somebody else pointed out, it'll probably pretty much start the day my labour does.
We _suspect_ three months might be long enough for things to settle into having a newborn around being normal for us, but not so long that I'm getting tired of him hanging around the house.
I haven't been able to find anybody who regretted taking (or their husband taking) a long leave, but "I wish it could've been longer" is common among people in the opposite situation.
The US laws only allow for six weeks?!? I'm disgusted. Good luck with that.

Wow that is hard babies come when theyare ready not when the paper work says to. You may want to do it a week post due date so he can be home for sure with baby, maybe not the first days or weeks but it will insure that baby SHOULD be here. My DHs work allows him to put in 2 days prior ro taking it, so he will use 2 vacation days & then his 2 weeks paid paternity leave will kick in.

My husband was able to put in for the leave around the time of my due date... After the baby was born he took two weeks off because that was all his company would allow.

If he's just taking time off to be home with you in the beginning, he may have to use his own vacation.
As far as I know with the parental leave(maternity leave) the woman has to take 15 weeks off first, then the man can take the remainder of the year.
If you aren't working I'm not too sure on the details. He should talk to the other guy who took two weeks off and see how he manage to do it.
Good luck and congrats on the bebe!

You can change the date...his company is wanting a time frame! And, usually the husband takes his paternity leave the day you go into labor! Tell him to take 2 weeks to give you time to heal and just in case you have a c-section which usually requires 2 weeks bed rest.

My husband took 1 week, from the day that the baby was born. My friend's husband took 2 weeks. My brother in law took 1 week from the day they came home from the hospital. I really think it all depends on if he's getting paid for it and if not, how long you can afford for him to be off with you.

My husband took the first week off. Then he took another 5 weeks off when I went back to work at 5 months, so that it would be easier on me knowing he was home. It also gave him a chance to know what I had been going through for 5 months.

the position are you at? regrettably contained in the U.S. there is not any such element as paternity leave - it truly is gloomy. In quite a number of different international places there is paternity leave. in reality, some companions are allowed to split up a particular volume of leave off between them regardless of the indisputable fact that they decide on. stupid huh that we've not something like this? Your fiance must have regarded into this before taking his vacation days. per chance the union can do something, yet I doubt it - they ought to adhere to the guidelines too.

My husband is a teacher and they only get 1 week paid paternity leave in his district. Lucky for us we started trying to conceive so I would be due after his school got out for the summer and we now have a June 30th due date! He'll get to be with me when school gets out mid-June thru the end of August.
Best of luck to you!
