My best friend is in the hospital awaiting the arrival of her second daughter. She is going to be in there at least a week before the baby is born due to complications, and she is on bed rest. You can only watch so much tv! What can I bring her to keep her occupied until the bundle of joy arrives? Her birthday also falls during this "vacation" Any suggestions is appreciated!

Too keep her busy, get her magazines, books, and crosswords. She might really like some nice things to help her feel pretty too. Perhaps a nice nightgown with some good slippers for her feet. Some lotion and body spray?
Take her some of her favorite food too since hospital food gets really old. It's too bad she's got to spend so much time there. Hospitals are not a fun place to be for that long!!

When my sister was in the hospital I sent her a bath kit that I put together with all sorts of sample sizes from Bath and Body Works and other places. I also got her a comfy pair of slippers and some cute pajamas that didn't look so pajama-ish for after the baby was born. She may have already packed her own stuff or they may provide something, it depends on the hospital. You could pick her up some magazines..if there are any certain magazines she reads..or Parents magazine. You could take her favorite food in one evening and have dinner with her and if you're not weirded out by feet then you could give her a foot massage. Does the hospital have a video or dvd player? You could take some movies in that she hasn't seen. Just some ideas! =)

You are so kind! I was in the hospital for a week due to early labor and then a few days after to moniter everyone. Bored out of my head. Take some games-easy stuff she will have to start and stop lots so no need for mega complex crosswords. Trashy tabloids-a little frivilous stuff to occupy the mind. Lotion and lip balm and baby wipes (for her to clean hands wipe off face etc)-I wanted those so bad but could never locate them. Flowers!! You can get cut ones cheap at Walmart, but get a vase too. A small compact too-nothing worse than a ton of folks visiting and you can't think of the last time you brushed your hair! Hope all goes well!

That's so thoughtful of you!

If she likes to read, books and magazines are a great option. So are puzzles (crossword, word search, etc.) If she's not on a restricted diet, I'd get some really nice chocolate or candies for her to indulge. Decorate a composition book for her to use as a journal. A nail manicure kit would also be nice. Put together a CD of her favorite tunes.

Some of the suggestions above are great. You may want to add:

-some fresh fruit and/or foods from home, snacks etc.
-a breastfeeding book like, The Womanly Art or Jack Newmans Guide to Breastfeeding ( she may as well read books that will be relevant to her, although magazines and stuff are good too )
-flowers and balloons to decorate her room
-maybe you could bring her a restuarant take-out dinner for her birthday, a favorite perhaps.....

Crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, if you know what kind of books see like take her one or two. Magazines would be good. If she croquets, does needlepoint or knits, take her some supplies or kits. If she has a cd player, take her some music. Or give her a walkman and some music. If she's missing some function, take pictures of the event and give them to her in a scrap book. A scrapbook of your friendship would be nice, too.

Hope she has a healthy baby!

A search-a-word book, a parenting magazine, a small diary.
In this diary she can write about all her thoughts were while
in the hospital. For example: How she felt each morning,
what she felt like eating, who would her baby look like?

Sudokus, crossword puzzles, magazines, books maybe. A Gameboy or similar small computer game. Chocolate (always good!)... Phone calls and visits from you and other friends. Especially on her birthday! Good luck to her!

PJ's and comfy slippers
magazines and puzzle books
a little basket of personal items like shampoo, conditioner, hairspray etc... The hospital doesn't usually supply these.
Housecoat
a journal so she can do some writing
