AVG free for home users,

**Ok don't use any suite of any kind mostly don't use a software firewall use a hardware firewall like on a router unless u like spending all your time screwing with your firewall.

Norton is getting better not good enough, Kaspersky and Panda are too tough and may cause system problems. F-prot is good, Macfee blows big time, lets see Bitdefender? lol next, ahh Symantec corprate is good (not Norton). Trend Micro, wouldn't use it, same with PC Cillin. Avast have it on my Vista machine now going to take it off and put on AVG, so not overly impressed with it.

Also make sure you use anti spyware, Webroot, Counterspy, or at least windows defender. there are some good free programs but they won't run resident, AVG antispy is also good.

1. Norton is always reliable but has greater requirements on your system than other antivirus programs.
2. Panda and Kaspersky keeps popping messages and asking permissions.
3. AVG is very light, and has to be updated almost always.
4. Nod32 is what we use for our mail server and blocks a lot of viruses.

I prefer using Trend Micro PC-cillin, coz it's effective and manageable, plus does not take much space in the system.

you could always search the web for the top 10 antivirus scanners around. good luck!

Norton AntiVirus

User Kaspersky. It is very thorough and it is not a system hog. A lot of people might recommend Norton but thats if you have enough ram and would mind missing 256MB of ram. If you are thinking of purchasing one, make sure you buy a CD rather than paying and downloading the software on the net. That way if you ever reformat or uninstall the program you have a CD to reinstall from rather than paying again to download it.

Bit Defender

I use Kasparsky. It has the best detection rate of all antiviruses. Fast. Fastest update. not a memory hog. system starts up excellent.

not norton. fair detection. terrible support. smoke and mirrors.

not McAfee. slows down startup time to ridiculus.

I like Norton, have tried a few of the free ones, but always go back to Norton, it's safe and up to date and I never have any problems.
