Well white people consist of the majority of the population, and don't experience the need to identify with their ethnicity because of that. There's a sociological term or theory or something that talks about that. If black people or hispanic people consisted of the majority of the population, I would bet money that there'd be some sort of white hisotry, entertainment, whatever (more stuff like Irish whatever-days, celtic history, german, etc)...but I think that'd be mostly if the usa didn't have the history it did with slavery and minority suppression and all (Irish people were persecuted because of religion but it just isn't the same, not even close).

Oh and to answer your question, white history month is everyday in the school system - history written by white *males* - females need to segregate themselves in a way too because well, that's history for ya (patriarchal society....white patriarchal society).

*sorry if i rambled*

Every month is White History Month. Every history textbok used by every American student covers "white" (European) history extensively, so a special time set aside to recognize it is a meaningless concept. I am assuming you're white because I've often heard many of my fellow whites wonder aloud about this. We just have to recognize though that as the majority and the ones who largely steered the course of our nations history the events that are taught and considered important are the ones that "we" (whites, or in particular elite Anglo whites) have considered important from our perspective. However, allowing minority groups the opportunity to describe history from their point of view provides those groups an outlet for their perspective, which can allow for a more balanced and enriching view of history. Read "A People's History of the United States", a great book that provides a more complete picture of all the people who have shaped this nation.

I don't believe they want to segregate themselves further. They only want the same chances that the "White Man" has denied them for hundreds of years! Look in our history books it is all about the "White Man" when blacks have had a huge impact on history and technology! We should celebrate the beauty and intelligence of a race that has been denied this for so long!

I'm practically tearing my hair out here! This question (and all of those like it) just make me want to scream. Did you know that there are classes, and scholarships, and Sororities, and entertainment, and all sorts of things that are especially for WOMEN? Do you know why? It's because MEN run almost everything. Men run the entire world, and as such, women must gather together to reaffirm their worth and power. Does anyone think that women ought not have special things all to themselves? I hope not. Black people lack power in this country, and we need to take time off to remind ourselves that even though we are NOT very powerful, there are still some of us who made it, and became successful. Do white people need to be reminded of all of the other white people who are successful? I don't think so.

I love the question,

I do think all the seperatism promoted by these type events adds to division and prevents true integration.

I agree we should celebrate important people of the past, but my sons school gets off for martin luther king day, but not columbus, or washington, or lincoln. ???? why, they had a riot about 10 year ago at the high school associated with that day and are afraid to not let the students out. That does not help the cause of true equal opprotunity integration,

Perhaps we should celebrate a day of national healing and let the schools out for that instead. There are injustices in the past to many minorities (native americans, chinese and germans during ww1&2, and proper mexican immigrants now)

White history month is all year. Stop complaining. Nobody's segregating anything. If everyone else can teach about old dead white men, we can teach about old dead black ones. The only people that are bothered by it are racists

I thought you asked this question already.....
And whats with "Blacks want to further segregate THEMselves"
Are you not one of us?

If you want a white history month...go ahead and make one.
Until then, stop whining!

Please pass this on to your white brothers who keep asking this exact same question.

We celebrate white history all year long....presidents day....columbus day...etc....

African Americans should have a whole month for all the crap they went through and its a month to reflect on that and appreciate the ppl that made the progress they did. I also think it should be a time to further the progress because there are multiple types of racisim still existing in todays cultures.....Blacks,gays, spanish, interracial....

White history month will become official when we ship the coons back to afreeka. Or will that be when blacks are history month?

There shouldn't be a "white history month" any more than there should be a "black history month". To me, it seems unhelpful and seems to promote a kind of separatism
