There are pretty much both the same. No matter which system you buy, one has something that the other doesn't.
For example:
Internet: PS3- Wi-Fi & Cable 360-Cable
Online Fee:PS3-Free 360-monthly payment
Online: PS3-basic 360-robust
Movies: PS3-Blu-Ray 360-HD DVD(sold seprately)
Picture: PS3-HDMI(built in) 360-HDMI(sold seprately)
Game Disc: PS3-Blu-Ray 360-DVD
Top Games: PS3-Resistance, Killzone, Tekken. 360-Gears of War, Halo, Dead or Alive
It depends on what things you rather have. People always talking about high the PS3 is. If you buy the add-ons I listed for the 360 you'll be paying either the same amount or more than PS3. The main reason why the PS3 is $600, is because of the blu-ray player and the 60gig hard drive (which can be upgraded to on the 360). Mainly you should pick on what first-party games you like the most(listed above).

from what I can tell the xbox 360 graphics are just as good as ps3 in most games. I heard one of the playstation 3 team members say that there are quite a few games that look better on 360 so thats straight from the horses mouth. Plus XBOX 360 online play dominates playstations.

That is such a personal question. Everyone is going to answer with the system they own. Brand loyalty is huge in the console war. If you love one, you hate the other by default.
I bought a 360 when it came out and I love it. I recently bought a PS3 and while it seems slightly more powerful with crisper graphic, I have been disappointed with the games to date. That said, PS3 has much more room to grow.
So my answer is 360 is better now but I reserve the right to change my answer in 6-12 months when a bigger lineup is out and price drops.

PS3 vs Xbox 360 - Which one ?
Ok this question must be ringing for new console buyers that which one to buy PS3 vs Xbox 360. Here is my take on this topic.
PS3 is super heavy duty machine with awesome games but it is not doing good on online gaming part. Games are super expensive and support is limited as of now.
Xbox 360 is well established in world and India. Plenty of support available. Rocks in online gaming. Games are ok priced. Lot of titles available.
Xbox 360 has DVD games whereas PS3 has Blu ray games. 360 has region encoded games so a particular region game will work only in that region. Xbox 360 comes in 4 flavors :
NTSC - U/C (US/Canada 110v)
NTSC - J (Japan 110v)
NTSC - Asia(Rest of Asia 220v)
PAL (UK,Europe,Australia,India 220v)
PS3 games are universal and Blu Ray can carry 60 GB of data in one disc so expect humongous games.
I would go for xbox 360 if I was to choose looking at current scenario. If you are a serious online gamer go for 360. Graphics are look alike for PS3 and Xbox 360 though PS3 will beat 360 in graphics in maybe later titles.

I personally have a 360 and I like it very much. I've always like the PS platforms. I myself want to get a PS3 but at the moment I don't see myself payin $600 w/ the games that are available for it. Once I see more games out there for the PS3 I might go and get me one :p.....But at the moment, i dont really see much difference between the two systems as far as graphics are concerned.

actually both r better ......im talking wrt graphics ....
both hav been tested by expets and found to be good with graphics upto the same level.
but there r some features in ps3 which r not in xbox.such as there r more gamepads ports in ps3 thene in xbox.....im not there sure but there r 7 2 8 ports in ps3 compared 4 2 5 ports in xbox . there is also bluetooth n more memory in ps3 .........
so if u wana play massive multiplaye r games thene u may take ps3 or otherwise xbox is ok

I like Halo, Gears of War, and the upcoming 360 titles this year look amazing to me (Crackdown, Halo 3, Alan Wake, Lost Planet), so I would have to say 360.
I think arguing over technical specs is moot. It's all about the titles to me. (Although Devil May Cry was a favorite of mine as well..)

I say wait on the PS3 because the game selection for right now is not worth its price tag of $600.
