Where does the matter come from to make the second cell some would say the 1st cell but how can something cut in half have the same mass after being split into there must be more matter from some where and when they split they are the same mass how can this be?

its not that the cell does not have enough matter at the time the time of division, the cell starts division when it gets matured and the matter in it is sufficient for the new cell to survive and start its own life, thus the new cell formed has less material as compared to mother cell but it is enough to start its life and later on get matured.

during mitosis new proteins are generated that make up the membrane of the cell. so as they divide new material is formed through protein and enzyme interactions.
