Why bother skipping it? All that will happen is you will end up with a worse punishment and your parents will be more mad. It is stupid to not be able to chew gum in school, but the problem is that some kids are so immature that they end up sticking the gum everywhere, which of course is just dumb and gets the teachers mad....you see someone does have to clean up all that chewed up, spit out gum....gross! I would say to just suck it up and go to the detention. Sometimes rules are just rules. I used to be a middle school teacher. Kids were allowed to chew gum in my room by the way and because I let them and no on else did, no one stuck gum anywhere in the room because they respected that they were allowed to chew it. Kids were also allowed to have snacks and drinks in the room and could take off their shoes and sit in bean bags while reading. SO...I agree that school rules are sometimes ridiculous, but the truth is that some kids are just so immature that schools are forced to have stupid rules. Go to the detention...it only gets worse if you don't.

When i was in high school (which wansn't long ago, im 19) we got in school suspension if we skipped detention. It didnt matter how much trouble you were in b4. The rule applied to everyone. I think you should go. Its not like you did anything really bad...it was just gum. Maybe your parents will understand....dont sign the paper yourself unless you are 100% sure you wont get caught

SKIP IT!!! sorrry if this is the wrong answer but i just dont belivee that is a good reason for detention,,,i would understand if you fought someone or cursed off a teacher...i dont know bout gum tho!

Whenever I skipped detention, they always gave me double detention as a punishment - it's your choice but if you don't usually get in trouble, do you really want to go this way?

There was a rule. You knowingly and willingly broke it. Doesn't make any difference whether you, anyone else, thinks it is a silly rule or not, it was still a class/school rule. The issue isn't the rule here. The issue is whether you got a suspension for breaking the rule.

Now you have consequences. Pay them.

Pick your battles. This one isn't worth fighting and you won't "win".

You got detention for chewing gum? How crummy is that. I used to spitball teachers and only got lectured. Phst.
Go to it, or else you're parents will kill you if and when they find out (and they will, cause if you don't go you're principal will call them asking why you weren't then, then you're cover is blown).

Yeah, skip it and see what sort of punishment follows. Idiot, you KNEW not to chew gum, so suck it up and deal with the consequences. Then don't chew gum again. Pretty basic.

Yea my college replaced into surprisingly lots the comparable. different than in case you pass detention one time you get Saturday college. i skipped and had to stay in Saturday college for 4 hours and it replaced into no longer exciting and not well worth getting up on a Saturday for. yet I did meet this rather cool chick. yet as properly that its no longer well worth it. do no longer attempt to overcome the device merely bypass with it. chew gum at lunch time.
