Donnie Darko is different and definitely not for everyone, but I loved it. The way I took it was that he transcended time to go back and save the girl he loved.

I have heard that the Directors Cut has an in depth explanation and someday I intend on renting it. I think like most good artistic films, this one is open to more than one interpretation

I'm rubbish at explaining things but i think Donnie Darko is open to interpretation. It's all about time travel and how Donnie has to die to save the rest of the world. There are various websites that try to explain it!

It's amazing.

Litterally it's a kid who has some diesase with the mind so he sees stuff and he's haunted by some rabbit and the rabbit tells him the world is going to end and he finds some book and so on. It's still the best film of the 21st century

Unfortunately I have seen it too. But unlike you I thought it was stupid and would never watch it again to try and "get it." Sorry.
