when a tree falls ,it doesn't care who hears it ,it is just the way things are..when sth falls to the ground ,it makes a sound because of the crash no matter loud or low !!

but in a philosophical sense, one interpert this as the following: all the victims around the world will continue voice their screams and cries for help even if the whole world faked deafness... the problem is not with the noise they make but with the lack of reaction and indifference towards misery and suffering that can be more catastrophic than the fall of an entire forest!!

As founder member of the Dungle Village Philosophical Society I have often wondered about this perplexing question. But my wife, Dorothy, who is found member of the Dungle Village Scientific Society, just laughs at this question as all scientific research shows that the tree will make a noise.

In order to answer this question for you, I have just conducted the following experiment. I went out into the Mossdown Forest which I own and placed four microphones in a 25 yard radius and connected them to a tape recorder. I then placed a small explosive charge at the base of an oak tree.

I retreated to the distance of six miles and remotely detonated the explosive. I donned ear muffs. I never heard a sound. I returned to the tree and found that it had toppled to the ground.

On my return home I played the tape and the tree could be clearly heard to be falling to the ground. So there’s the answer to your question. I suspect that the nearby squirrel also heard it before it was squashed under the tree.

Hope this helps.

The real question here may be Hanna if there is no one there to see it happen is there even a tree to fall?

This makes more sense if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.

This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.

At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.

We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.

These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.

From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.

So the real question becomes does the tree or anything else actually exist outside of or external to the mind that thinks that it is seeing it.

I hope that answered your question.

Love and blessings Don

well ya just because nobody would hear it doesnt meant that it wouldnt make a sound. Imagine that your walking in that same forest and nobody is around are u still makeing a noise? Yes.

Yes if a tree falls in the forest & no one is there to hear it it still makes a sound. There would still be animals to hear it & even if no one is there it would still make a sound vibration (even deaf people can pick up vibrations).

Yes there is still sound. Are you suggesting sound only exists if there someone there to hear it? There are animals in the forest so yes the sound exists.

I've been through this before with someone I used to make it.

IT WILL - Just because there's no one there to hear the sound doesn't mean that the sound wasn't made.

I'll go further and ask this - If a person goes swimming and drowns and there's no one around - Will he be DEAD and more so will he be DEAD from drowning?

The sound waves will be there all the same. Animals in that forest will hear the sound and react to it, plants may react to it. So I would say yes

certainly, if God intended it to fall, then he will hear it, even if no one else does. Everything has a purpose, even if it seems purposeless at first, like the tree making sound. Great question!!!

GUD QUESTION!!
yea, there will be a sound. No humans may hear it, but humans aren't the only living things that can hear.
If we say no, then the human race will be asserting its superiority over the other living beings..
dont we always do that? if things dont matter to us, we just forget abt thm..
