It is nothing like that. You go to a horror film expecting to get scared, and that is what you paid money for. Try watching a horror movie in a language you don't understand, from a culture you know nothing about and without any subtittles. The horror picture appears funny. I watched a japanese picture in this manner and learned that I was supposed to be horrified. I found it amusing.

Secondly the fear is generated by the unknown, and we are alert to dangers. For example you hear a gunshot all of a sudden. Your reflexes make you scared. The noise, and sudden positioning of pictures trigger your biological flight or fight attitude. Combined with the expectation of being scared, you feel so.

Because the human mind actually doesn't know the difference between a real occurence and an imagined one.
For the same reason, we cry at weddings, laugh when something funny happens in a movie or feel compassion for a hurt hero.
Try this:
Close your eyes and relax. Really concentrate on this: Imagine you're in a grocery store, walking through the produce section. See the apples, oranges, tomatoes, lemons. Walk to the lemons and pick one up. Smell it. Really imagine the smell of lemon. Now take a big bite of the lemon.
Is your mouth watering? See, there's no real lemon, just an imagined one, but your body responds as though there was.

If you do not get scared then it is not a horror film. The happenings in a horror film can not be logically explained and that makes people scared. They see things are hppening but are not clear why and who is making them happen. This uncertainty scares them. It is human nature.

it's smwhere deep in our mind . since we were kids we always imangined monsters n ghosts . see its a kind of defence mechanism of our mind.watching scary movies gives us unwanted scary, unpleasant thought which sometimes have long -lasting effects and inorder to prevent those effects from our mind it creates fear against weird things so that we stay away from them.......& Hormones does effects a little when we are scared few glands of our body start secreting hormones to lower the attention and make us relax . n nerves of autonomous system also plays an important role in this .

well, it's in human nature. Nothing related to hormones. It's just thst while watching a horror we are drawn in it and we feel a part of it. It something related to our brain. Sometimes the suspense makes us enter the same place and our emotions become real.

Films are imaginary. They may not be based on truth.

Instead of watching horror films, watch true films such as 10 commandments, Ben-Hur, Amazing Grace, etc.

The Bible ask us to think on what is true, whatever is noble and excellent.

Read the Bible. You have only one life to live on earth. Seek God and serve the one true God.
