It's not that Acme stuff doesn't work. What you have is in the period when the Wile Coyote was created, the use of the Acme brand was because it represented any company that was creating those products; Acme is a generic name for ALL companies. This prevented them from losing endorsements since during that time a lot of the promotions were done live and Acme didn't offer a sense of preferential treatment. Therefore, protecting thier opportunities to do business with anybody.

Because Microsoft purchased Acme Products in 1980. Since then Acme (AKA MS Acme, Acme XP, Acme Vista) has been flooding the market with poorly designed Road Runner extermination technology. Mr. Coyote would much rather purchase his products from Apple, but the people at Cupertino do not believe in killing Road Runners and would rather sell their products to smelly hippy-types than violent wild animals in the desert. Mr. Coyote has been assured by MS Acme that the products would function properly if he upgraded to Acme Vista Ultimate Supreme and installed the latest Service Pack and several hundred security patches, but he unreasonably expects the products to work as soon as he takes them out of the box. Until Mr. Coyote learns how to build his own stuff and make it run on Linux it seems that the Road Runner is fairly safe.

Simple, advertising and marketing. I have no solid evidence but I can imagine that ACME is probably one of the larger corporate owned companies catering to coyotes who enjoy blowing up roadrunners. I am sure there are other companies that try to grab a piece of that action who have better products with friendlier service but I can imagine that they cannot come close to competeing with ACME for customers because they lack an advertising budget and they can afford to rely on bulk sales to keep thier prices low. The common consumer is more concerned with saving money and flashy commercials than the quality of the actual products that they buy. What would be classic is if the roadrunner actually owned ACME and was creating his own market by taunting the coyote making him desire the ACME products.

The same reason we keep buying M$ OS's. They're the only windows bases game in town. And just like Acme products they're leave it up the consumer to do their testing with the expected results; catastrophic failure, pain, grief, ect. And have we learned our lesson? Clearly not since we continue to buy their products. Good example, Vista. I can see the 16 ton weight over our heads already.

I think the products work, it is just Wile Coyote that is the problem. I mean he keeps going back and back to get roadrunner when he could just pack up and move 20 miles and not worry about RR. He can get food elsewhere.

Because the sales people at the store convince him that the ACME products have been re-enhanced since the last time he bought it.

I suppose there are not many options to get explosive supplies in the desert. Acme is a monopoly that put all of the 'mom and pop' explosive suppliers out of business.

A running gag. If the very first product worked and he caught the roadrunner, that would be the end right there. They gotta keep it going.
