its not only the political structure...dat is just one of the many factors...

one of the major deterrents is education and people's lacking enthusiasm to learn. , to change their views and adopt a new world devoid of superstitions and blind faith.

But now things are changing.A large populace is educated and others are learning the importance of education in success. so all that needs to be changed now is people's attitude of 'pulling a person down the success ladder instead of trying to climb it themselves'.

I was in Bangalore last March. I don't think India is quite as backwards as it appears. The influx of high technology is changing the infrastructure. With these new buildings they are demanding clean water, reliable electricity, etc. This is causing the country to have more reliable infrastructure slowly.

In terms of technology, India is more advanced in cell phone technology than the US.

In the US, no one even knows what SMS means.

I think the best thing to happen to India is capitalism and democracy. It wont happen overnight but India will became a huge economic powerhouse raising the living standards of everyone. This will also help break down caste walls.

No, no ... it is not .... it has not been that many years since India became independent from the British and it takes time to recover from foreign rule...it has been only 50 years and that is not enough time to recover from :
150 years of British domination
400 years of Moslem domination

To re-establish itself as a nation it means recovering the ancient traditions of Bharat / India and to re-establish them, in addition to keeping up with the developments of the modern age ... in addition, it is always unfortunate if there is too much foreign influence due to fascination with another culture .... so India needs to love itself, and that is right around the corner (time wise, I mean)

Peace & Love
