In Hindu/ buddhist temples. Im not too sure which. there is a course of circumambulation and mandala is the object in the middle which is very holy and important. can anyone share more about it please? I am designing based on Mandala, the 9 squares. thanks!

Mandala is Sanskrit for circle, polygon, community, connection. The 9 square mandala is called a Pitha. Vastu Shastra is one of the traditional Hindu canons of town planning and architecture that includes mandalas. You might want to look into that too.

From Buddhist stupas to Muslim mosques and Christian cathedrals, the principle of a structure built around a center is a common theme in architecture.
