I think you are born gay. I don't think its a choice. Why would someone put themselves thru such hate and ridicule by society by their own choice? I give kudos to anyone that is gay or lesbian and stands up for their right to choose who they fall in love with. Our society has no right to dictate what is acceptable when it comes to falling in love. Love knows no color, no religion, no gender. With all of the hate and discontent in our world today, how dare we condemn two people for loving each other??

I just had to come back and add a few of my observations to the answers you received.

"gurllucky" - your not so lucky, I think we should change your name to "gurlignorant"

hasse_joh... - Are you related to "gurlignorant"?

NAME- Shame on you for condemning the asker!! She has a right to ask this question. Did you take the time to see that she is new to yahooanswers? Did you take the time to see that this is the only question she has ever asked? Maybe she is sincerely trying to understand something, maybe she is young, maybe - just maybe, she is trying to figure out some feelings of her own. Sure the question has been asked and answered before, but not by her. If you are tired of the question, don't answer it, and if you do, take the time to be sensitive, caring, and informative. There is no reason to respond to her the way you did.

I am just blown away by a few of these responses, most were sincere opinions, but for those of you who breed hate, find another place to spread it.

Funny how the ones asking such a question are heterosexual.

WHY don't you people believe the gay people who answer the question!!!

It is NOT a "Choice" I made. I was NOT abused as a child. I was NOT "Converted" by someone.

Homosexuality DOES exist in the animal kingdom. I HAS existed throughout human history. In ALL cultures.

The term homosexual is BARELY 100 years old. Study to understand human sexuality has only been studied in the last 100 years. So ANY reference to homosexuality before 1900 has to be framed with that in mind.

Within the last decade, genetic analysis of heritable traits has taken a huge step forward with the advent of DNA microarray technology. Using this technology, it is possible to scan large lengths of the human genome (even an entire genome wide scan—GWAS) for numerous individuals, at quite reasonable costs. This DNA microarray technology has led to the discovery of genes that are associated with complex diseases, such as Crohn's Disease, which is the topic of my research. If homosexuality truly has a genetic component, DNA microarray studies would not only definitively prove the point, but would identify specific gene(s) or loci that might be associated with those who express a homosexual orientation. The first attempt to do genome wide scans on homosexual males was done by Mustanski et al. in 2005.42 The results suggested possible linkage near microsatellite D7S798 on chromosome 7q36. However, an attempt to repeat the finding (along with ~6000 well-defined SNPs spread comparatively evenly across the human genome) failed to find any significant SNPs.43 However, a third study using Chinese subjects found a weak association at the SHH rs9333613 polymorphism of 7q36.44 A more general study, examining mate choice among different populations, found no genetic link, prompting the investigators to speculate that such choices were "culturally driven."45 The largest genome wide scan was conducted by 23andMe. 7887 unrelated men and 5570 unrelated women of European ancestry were analyzed by GWAS. Although unpublished, the data was presented at the American Society of Human Genetics annual meeting in San Francisco, showing that there were no loci associated with sexual orientation, including Xq28 on the X chromosome.46 So, the preliminary studies on possible genetic causes of homosexual orientation tends to rule out any dramatic genetic component to sexual orientation.

People are born gay. It has been shown to be biological in several scientific studies. Nobody would choose to be harassed and discriminated against the way gay people have been.

Putting religion aside,

Yes, I definitely think you can be born gay. Didn't some kids have a boyfriend/girlfriend in kinder garden, grade one or two, (obviously not serious relationships, but still liked someone in your class)?
We knew we liked boys/girls then right?!

Holy COW!

Gay is a choice?

Damn! Why wasn't I told? I'm a guy who is really attracted to women but I really don't remember making a conscious decision to be that way, do you?

Here I thought the only choice any of us have in this world is whether to be who God made us or to be who other people expect us to be.

Umm, that's the only way it can happen. All gay people are born that way.
