I don't have one, but my boyfriend has the 30G colour ipod, which he bought for nearly £200 last year! Previously, he had the first ipod which came out and spent over £400, but it broke after 2 years! He also has issues with the battery running out quickly! Sometimes I consider getting one but I am wondering if they're as wonderful as they're made out to be, judging on my boyfriends experiences with them?

I have an ipod and its definatly worth getting one. I payed £180 for mine and at first, I thought I had wasted my money but then my friend bough an MP3 player and it doesn't hold as many songs as my ipod, I have all my digital camera pics on it so I can look at ALL my pics where ever I am and they all fit in my handbag and dont take any space up at all!! And now I have a device that allows me to play my ipod through ANY FM stereo so I never need to take CDS with me when I am driving and the sound quality is excellent. I have access to 1000 songs wherever I am. I don't have to keep changing CDs, I can put a CD on itunes and all the tracks that I dont paticualary want, I don't put them on so theres none of this "i dont like that tune, skip to the next business."

There is the issue that the battery doesn't last as long as it should and after 2 years it will probably break but do you know what? I love my ipod and when the time comes, I will buy a new one when my old one passes away as I have definatly had my moneys worth in the first six months of getting it!! My only worry is, with such a choice of songs, what do I want to listen too???

I think that if it was just a little cheaper than it definitely would be worth the money. It's a good thing to have but just too expensive for me. I have an ipod and I'm generally satisfied with it. Yes, it's annoying that I have to convert some videos to put them into the ipod, but I don't have that many of them and the conversion is not overwhelmingly long anyway. i can't say much about battery life & scratches on the screen b/c thse things depend on the user. I find that the battery life is good (so far) and the battery charges quicker than I expected.

I currently own a Palm Lifedrive. It has a 4GB hard-drive and I have installed a 2GB memory card. The storage may be a little smaller than some of the MP3 players out there. However 6GB is more than enough storage. I have 4 movies on it at the moment, that I can watch on a nice sized screen. It also have 1500 mp3's on it with plenty of room to spare. But not only does it play media. It functions as my sat-nav. I have games. I have ebooks. I can surf the internet. I can use MS Office Docs, I have a dictaphone. The best thing is that I got all of this functionality for £350. I did look at iPods, and I do think they're cool, but for the money, they don't compare.

You pay your money and You take your pick!
I have a 30gig Video version 5.5 and my wife has an 8gig Nano Version 2. Both are fantastic. I don't use iTunes for anything other than music management. I encode to MP3 from Windows Media Player at 320kbps as this is a much higher bit rate than iTunes can encode at. Also it allows me to use my music on any other MP3 Player I own.
We have had no problems with ours, but we do have them insured for replacement if anything happens to them (anything at all!)
As for cost, you can buy another brand but you will pay almost the same price for the equivalent specification.
At the end of the day, Apple are the market leaders for MP3 players for two reasons. 1/ Quality and 2/ Style.

They are great (I have a 4G Ipod). Don't drop it though or it'll need constant opening up & fiddling around with the hdd cable, or hitting the back of it to get it to work properly. The battery is great as long as you do a complete charge, then a 3/4 use before completely charging it again. I wouldn't bother with the video ones though, what's the point of paying more for a tiny little video player screen? Especially when you have to convert almost every video to play them on it anyway.

no, they break way too easily, and are then expensive to fix. Mine lasted about a year. Also, you are restricted to using only itunes for all of your music which is a bit annoying. An mp3 is better in my opinion, though admittedly ipods are really cool at the beginning when they work well.

They are good... and they aren't. I own one, and I love it to death. Yes, sometimes they tucker out, but there is a massive fan-base that will help you out with any software problems, and from experience, the Apple representitives are really helpful *just in case* something horrible does happen.

Bottom line, I feel that they are worth it.

Yes, but only the real iPods. The iPod Nanos suck. WAY too little space. My roomie has an iPod and it's great. 30 Gb.
