I'm designing a tattoo that includes the egyptian symbol of life (an ankh) and the four elements (earth, fire, water and air). Theres a spot in the middle thats big enough to fit something in and i want to put a symbol of death to show death is part of life. Any ideas?

skulls and such are so cliche, and from the sound of the tattoo you're going with something much more serious and symbolic. My first idea would be to pair the egyptian symbol for life with an egyptian symbol for death. Anubis is an obvious choice but there are others. The first 2 sites I listed has some egyptian symbols and their meanings.

But there are plenty of other death related symbols such as lilies, crows, vultures, etc. The third and fourth site shows a list of death symbols seen in cemetaries.

Most impoortantly, you need to find a symbol that relates and speaks to you personally. Good luck with the tattoo. Just be sure you are TOTALLY satisfied with it BEFORE you get inked!

You are seeking a combination of opposites, which is quite impossible.Choose life,or death, then seek a symbol. What you are asking is like asking for a symbol that stands for light and darkness at the same time. They would cancel each other out.

Symbol of death is part of giving each one of us to live one life and be part in God's life and follow His foot steps to save each soul, and to be ready to visit only god, not Mankind after each leave the world (Death). whether you like or not, we'll got to accept God created Human kind into this world . God create human and He's the part of our life for all of us to face death. symbol of Death is very powerful and no body could escape . Ther's nothing permenent in this world, accept where we go after death life.

Two scythes (like the grim reaper has) crossed to make an X, that'd certainly get your point across.
