If you are a rentor, you are not covered by homeowner's insurance. The owner will probably only get payment for actual repairs, such as the door and there will be an out-of pocket deductible of somewhere between $500 and $1000. neither the owner, nor his insurance are responsible for your property losses. You can buy rentor's insurance on any new stuff you buy, but you will not get anything for your current losses.

if you are renting none of your belongings are covered on his home owners insurance unless he lied and said the stuff was his. You need renters insurance to cover your belongings when you rent.
