To come out with such a stero typical role right before the The Academy voters get a chance to vote for him in Dreamgirls is crazy.
For a while the posters for Norbit said "Have you ever made a really big mistake?" From the NY Post The ads got changed. Presumably, somebody at Paramount belatedly realized people were thinking the mistake was made by Eddie Murphy, who may have lined his pockets with "Norbit" at the expense of winning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for another of the studio's releases, "Dreamgirls."
What do you think?

No....I don't think it will sway voters...well at least it shouldn't. I strongly believe that voters should just vote for that one role. That's why I also don't like it when actors seem to get awards not for outstanding acting that should've rightfully received awards, but get seemingly make-up ones that in my opinion de-value the award. For example, Denzel should've won for Malcolm X, but got one for Training Day. But, that's getting off the topic a little.

Regarding the movie "Norbit"....I haven't seen the movie and maybe he is bad in it...I don't know, BUT I do find that poster extremely in poor taste. While I'm sure Eddie Murphy had no control over the image of the movie poster, I do find it disheartening that it's yet ANOTHER movie of a man dressed as an overweight black woman! Eddie Murphy has already dressed an overweight woman in another movie; and so has Tyler Perry and Martin Lawrence. While I respect all three of those actors for other brilliant and creative work they've done, I do find that the end result is adding to stereotyping black women. Why is an overweight person (and apparently black women in particular) funny? Why can't the comical plot come from something other than someone's size?

No, Eddie Murphy is a true movie icon. He has already made comedy history and nothing can take that away. I love Eddie Murphy because he is his own person. He has his own special way of making people laugh. It's your own opinon to like the movie or not. I haven't watched it yet but I am sure it'll be just as good as The Nutty professor. It may not be a Academy award movie, but every actor/actress has had atleast one crappy movie.

No, but I do think he ruined his chance at being taken seriously as an actor and getting better roles.

But, you have to understand a lot of times these actors sign binding contracts that tie them to a 5, 6 or 7 picture deal years before a breakout role plays on the screen and they sometimes do not have the choice in which films they are in. I bet you can name lots of now big name actors that starred in some silly movies..

Joe vs. the Volcano anyone?

I don't think that Norbit will influence the vote, but his professional reputation based on past movies will. So, it's basically the same thing. They won't vote for him.

No, loads of actor winners have been in TERRIBLE films before and after their win (e.g. Halle Berry in Catwoman)
