Work at home should be a job, not something you buy into or research on the internet. Look for a job that offers you the potential to work from home and stay away from scams.
With that said get on the job boards, seek something you are familiar with and follow up about potential for telecommuting, work at home or split shift (half and half - home / office) type work.
Make sure that if your interested in working from home you build up your skills, you have that entrepreneural self starter/initiative attitude and that you are willing to commit yourself to a job and not just a fantasy.
The first few weeks can be difficult because you're home all of the time so make some space for you, dedicate a room and demand to be left alone to do your job.
I guess my best response is don't think of working from home as some fantasy that affords you freedom - its something you have to commit to and being committed to it affords you more freedoms than the daily grind of driving it but it is still a job and still something that will take time and have demands on you (if not more than being at an office)
Stay away from surveys, cold calling, email, pay per click scams. Seek out real opportunity and make a plan to be where you want to be.

Hi,
To be honest, you are probably not going to find a job working from home. Any opportunities you find that require a start up fee or money up front is a scam don't get sucked in!!
I encourage you to immediately put these jobs out of your mind. Here are some of my tips when looking for a job....
Networking - Register at your local Unemployment Office (you don't need to be on unemployment to register for their assistance). They often will have networking groups on a regular basis. They also are a good source for the jobs that never show up in the paper or online.
Check your local paper -- In many cases the papers classified are now online.
Search Smart Online -- If you don't have a lot of time, spend most of your time at sites that aggregate the job feeds from several job search engines. Prominently these include indeed.com and thingamajob.com.
Organization -- I use a free online application that allows you to track your ads, jobs you apply for, send or print mail merged correspondence, and track your job search history. This site is jobsearchlog.com
I invite you to check it out and you'll be able to keep track of what you apply for.
Good Luck,
Karen

Best home jobs I've seen have been day cares, massage therapist, reflexologist, money management (people who need help organizing and paying their bills), phone service (as a secretary or for people that don't have phones for whatever reason).
Alternatively, you could act as an extension for other people in the things that they need help doing. Some people in my area offer to cook dinner 3-4 times a week for $20. Saves a lot of effort for me after a 9-12 hour shift. Maybe even a swing to help with those long lists of todo things people have and never seem to hit them all.
You could also be a safe point for afterschool kids, helping with their homework and such until their parents get off from work.
Most home based professions (sans a few I politely nod, but skip over in mixed company to mention), are low pay per transaction so you'd have to make the cash in bulk transaction or a wide diversity of areas. Money managment, dinner cooking, and safe point for one person I know pulled in an additional $400/month for them.
If you are a speculative sort, try selling virtual realty in Second Life. It takes time, but people do make cash.
Good luck.

Home based jobs are highly competitive and hard to find.
They're out their, but if their at the professional level they usually require experience and a special circumstance.
I have seen home based positions in almost every field and industry- really depends on situation.
The best known home based position is called Homemaker!
