There seems to be a section of the US who think the pilot who shot up a British armoured vehicle was a hero! not to mention the death of a british solidier.I was appalled at the attitude of the pilots neighbour. God help the US forces with no marks like him and god help the world

Is it just me or is there something of a witchhunt going on here?

If you see the whole video of the incident, the pilot is clearly told there a no friendly units in the area. He asks for confirmation and is again told the same thing, and as such he proceeds to attack the tanks. Apparently the whole incident lasted 15 mins and in this time the pilot launched 2 attack runs on the convoy.
This leads to 2 questions. Why didnt someone get on the radio after the 1st attack and let the pilots know it was a UK convoy?
And who thought that an orange tarpaulin is a suitable method of ID'ing friendly tanks?

This whole incident could have been avoided if the governments concerned had invested in the appropriate technology to identify friend from foe.

And how come there wasn't such uproar with all the previous incidents of friendly fire in Iraq?
It is a very sad situation but it isn't the pilots fault.

I'm British by the way...

I watched the interview with that neighbour. Prior to that the only thing I had against the yanks was the bullshit they come out with.

( I remember when I was 15 and the yanks were here at Manston, flashing their fat wallets around and steeling all our birds)

But that guy made me feel quite sick, he was such a slime bag. The contemptable way he spoke about the British in general certainly would not win him any friends over here, and the pig made me feel like I wasn't fit to clean the dirt under his shoes.

Then we come to the pilot, I felt for him when I heard the recording and couldn't really attach any blame for what happened, but later he arrives home to a heros welcome and boy does he lap up the crap. Seems as if killing one of ours was all part of the excitement, and now he's gone into hiding, what a great guy.

I have about as much respect for him and his big mouth neighbour, as I do for that pair of wan*ers bush and blair.

The Russians lost more people in Leningrad than the British and Americans total combined dead for WWII

The British declared war on Germany to help liberate Europe from the Nazi opressor.

The Americans waited for two years to declare war, and only did so after they had no choice. This after they had 'loaned' us the money.

The guy interviewed confirmed all my ideas and more when he said 'we saved you all, you were just sucking your thumbs'

Oh, and by the way, when you say 'the pilot was told there were no units in the area' which area do you mean? The pilots gave no grid references.

Tough one this one.
They pump them up so they can take a life so they appear gung-ho. Us Brits have a different approach.
In this PARTICULAR case they were doing what they were told and were given duff information. Big shame.
I think there is a wider argument as to why this keeps happening and there is nothing (on a national) scale done about it. I would, however, be interested in finding the ratio of blue on blue we have done on them. I think it is 4:1 but I am not 100% sure of my figures.

In most of our wars the enemy has only been responsible for only about 10% of our losses. We caused the other 90%.

We lost 58,000 people in Viet Nam over a ten year period. We lose 50,000 each year on our highways. If we would just slow to 55 mph we could save 15.6 % on fuel and over 10,000 lives, but this would slow the amount of money made by the rich and big oil companies.

Our answer to that problem is to elect people who put people before money. "For what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world ..." ~

Most of the ones in the US army now, grew up on programmes like The A-Team, where you fire thousands of rounds the car blows up and the baddy gets out brushes the dust off his sholders and walks away. It's just a pity real war isn't like that isn't it?

I posted a question on the same subject only a few days ago and you should have seen the response that I got from the planks. They dug into me like a shark attack on a florida beach, telling me that the pilot would endure so much pain in years to come. Within 24 hours I see that he get a heros welcome, huh. Its one rule for them pal and another for us, we aint all Bushies robots.

The guy was just being patriotic for goodness sake. It was 'totally mad' for a British journalist to go and question him in the first place. What did we want the American to do, fall to his knees weeping and begging for America's forgiveness?!
