Me personally, I haven't watched all that many DVDs, but of those I have, my top 3 found so far are:

1. Lord of the Rings (extended editions) (Region 2)
2. Alien Quadrilogy (Region 2)
3. The Wizard of Oz (3 disc edition) (Region 1)

Also, does anyone have any experience of the extras-rich "Criterion Collection" DVDs - any standout extras packages from the collection so far?

I appreciate your help!

I'd love to help ya, I really would, but I don't usually view DVD extras at all except some deleted scenes on occasion.

I hate director commentary and making of's usually bore me unless its a movie I adore

tricky question! The extras on all 3 Lord of the Rings Extended movies are definitely the best, but you said that already!
And i want to pick "Moulin Rouge", where the extras are spectacular, but somebody else already did. So...
1. The Wicker Man 3-disc. You get the theatrical version and the directors cut version, with a documentary explaining why the differences, plus loads of interviews and documentaries around one of the great horror movies of all time. As if that wasn't enough, the other disc is the soundtrack, which is one of the best soundtrack albums I have ever heard.
2. Friends collection. Not so hot initially, the extras get better and better with each season and really add some magic to familiar material - quizzes, short bits, bloopers, good stuff!
3. Monsters Inc Special Edition. Yes, a kids film! But it is a good movie and the extras are exceptional, entertaining and informative both, which just shades out "Finding Nemo".
Cheers, Steve.

You can't play AVI files on most DVD players. You will have to convert/encode the files to Mpeg2 first. There of a ton of programs that will do this for you. Ulead, Pinnacle. ConvertXtoDVD. Anyways you got 8.2GB of AVI. AVI is likely already fairly compressed so dont try and make the 8.2GB into a 4.7GB. Your best bet is to burn it to two DVD5/4.7GB disc. Also that 4.7 is actually like 4.4GB. The way the companies list it is not the same way that your computer will show the file size. Most DVD5 files are around 4.37gb.

I believe the first DVD package to knock me on my *** was the Heavy Metal animation DVD. I was lost for hours in the special features...set the bar for me.
I haven't bought a Criterion DVD in years...
2) The Babylon 5 tv series...five years long...each year has three discs with delicious stuff on it.
3) can't think of a third one off hand.

Charlie and the chocolate factory (new film)

Oh and Phantom of the opera, I know you only asked for three but this one is brill too.

They are packed full of interesting extras, I love the extras and will only buy a dvd if the extras are interesting and varied.

I rarely watch the extras but the ones on Slither were hilarious. I'm in the U.S. so it was a region 1 disc, are the extras normally different in different regions???
