Hi, Im eighteen and going in for my first gyno visit soon, Im not worried about the actual visit, just wondering whether there is anything special to be done beforehand, you know grooming/cleanliness wise. Before I visit the denstist I always shower, brush, floss, use a mouth wash etc. Before a doctors visit i always shower, shave, brush, clean my ears. Is there anything special I should be doing for a gyno visit? Also I usually keep myself shaved down there, is there anything wrong with doing that the day of?

To shave or wax won't make a difference. But do not douche the week before. During your visit the doctor will do a pap smear which will mean they take a sample of the cells from your cervix. Douching may alter the results of that.

Just wash like you normally do. You will probably have to leave a pee sample anyway so that will give you a chance to take inventory down there right before your exam.

Remember to take slow deep breaths if you are nervous and practice keeping your muscles relaxed "down there". If you are tense, it will make the exam more unpleasant. Not that it's a picnic to begin with.....

NO. There is nothing wrong with being shaved down there. Some women think they need to let it grow out before they see the gynecologist, but there's no reason to do that. There are some doctors who say shaving causes bacteria to enter the skin, but it depends on what method of shaving is being used and what kind of products you use after you shave. Products from Bikini Zone prevent bacterial infections.
