I am a little superstitious, but when it came to it I was also told not buy things to early, and not to decorate the nursery or build the furniture, the woman in the pram shop even told us they will keep the pram until my baby arrives "incase things go wrong". I told the woman where she could go, if you know what I mean! We bought the pram, cot etc, when I was 25 weeks pregnant and they were built in my home when I was around 29 weeks. The way I see it, superstitious or not, you can never start these things too early, I mean what do you do if your baby decides to come a bit early and you are not ready, it would be a lot more difficult to try and build a cot and pram, decorate the nursery when your little bundle of joy is already in your arms!!! Better to be safe than sorry I say! We also named our daughter when I was 6 weeks pregnant! Do what is right for you!!!

I'm not superstitious - I'm also 27 weeks, and I've bought a bath/changing unit, a cot, clothes and I also have a friend who gave me some of her little girl's 0-3 month clothes!
All this on top of the fact that I have had a complicated pregnancy, I have anemia, placenta previa and a hematoma by my uterus - BUT - I'll be prepared if my baby comes early, and if she was born now, at 27 weeks, she would have about 85% chance of survival...
Don't worry - you're fine, if I'm already getting ready, you do so too!! And I WILL be putting up the buggy before she is born - I'll need to, those modern ones are so complicated, much too complicated not to test before the first time you put baby in it!!
Good luck and congrats!
;-)

How will you have all the essential bits you need for baby in the hospital if you can't have them in the house ready for when you go into labour? You have to paint the nursery now anyway to ensure there are no fumes for when baby comes home! I think it's a silly superstition, that should be paid no attention to! You are indeed wise to be prepared, and it's a great idea to start stocking up earlier rather than later to help spread the cost. If it's really bothering you, then send the buggy to a close relatives or friends until baby arrives!

I don't think of it as superstitious, I don't believe you can "jinx" yourself.
But you never know what is going to happen to you or your baby during the pregnancy. And if things don't work out as you dreamed, it is a very gut-wretching experience.
Considering about 30% of pregnancies do not have happy endings, I think that's why people warn against doing too much earlier on.
A good friend of mine was on cloud nine when she found out she was pregnant. She and her hubby did up a beautiful nursery and had everything in order. Then at 7 months pregnant, she developed complications and the baby was born early. The baby only lived for a couple of days then sadly passed away.
My friend had to come home from the hospital to an empty nursery with no baby to put in it.
It was months before she could even look in that room. Having to pack things up and put it in storage was one of the saddest and hardest things she ever had to do.
I hope I didn't scare you with this story. I just wanted to answer your question from my experience. I wish you all the best. :)
(incidentally, my friend went on to have 4 beautiful little girls and they are a very happy family)

It is Ok as soon as you want to! It would be ridiculous to wait till the last min then you would not be prepared. I started buying things before I even got pregnant. And as soon as found out I was I started on a nursery. I had the whole nursery done by the time I was 3 or 4 months. My child was just fine!

I have most everything I need and I am only 29wks along. I have named him as soon as I found out he was a boy. I do not see anything wrong with being prepared.. since the baby can come at any time. I have a stroller, carseat, playpen, the baby bed will be here soon. I am thinking about a bassinet. And oh do I have clothes.. so many clothes. I have been ebaying alot..lol. I have a high chair too. My son will be Aiden Jacob.. and he should know his name when he gets here.. cause all I do is talk to my tummy all the time.

Don`t you worry , its an old wives tale , don`t let that insensitive person ruin the excitement you have waitng for baby to come and getting organised, i think you are very sensible getting prepared .. I am very superstitious but i did not let it get in the way of my pregnancy .
I started to buy things for my babies after the 12 week stage and was probably all prepared at around 32 weeks ..
Congratulations x

I have only ever heard about the pram thing and it is only if you put it up. I am not superstitious but I am very soft in the head due to hormones LOL and argue with myself as to whether the pram should stay at my siser in laws until the birth or bring it home. I have bought a bugaboo and I the part of me that is sensible says bring it home and learn how to use it LOL but I don't know. Perhaps it is only a superstition in the UK?

It's called getting prepared. Trust me, you won't have the energy to enjoy last minute rushing around to get everything. I always start getting ready at around the 5th or 6th month (and sometimes its hard to wait that long). I am fairly certain that your shopping with have no effect on your child's sex or life lol. Other than having a well prepared home to come into anyway. Besides if you wait till the last minute you will more than likely forget to get something important and have to go out to get it directly after you get home with the baby. lol Good luck!

i might say that i'm no longer superstitious. I gained £one hundred on the national Lottery on the thirteenth, so as that replaced into particularly a extraordinary day. As for strolling under ladders, I even tend to no longer try this out of user-friendly experience as i do no longer choose to have an twist of fate. I do tend to assert, touch timber/knock on timber, yet this is particularly a social and cultural situation which you possibly can say in front of friends, fairly sheep like as one and all says it. My Mum stored a Joan The Wad in her handbag, and that i save that out of sentimentality and a memory of my Mum.
