I take a lunch to work. Including drinks.
I try not to order fast foods like pizza on a regular basis. Its cheaper to make foods or buy frozen stuff at the store.
Freeze left overs. Use it in soups or for lunches at a later date.
I turn off lights when I leave the room. If I am going to be away from the TV or radio for more than 5 minutes I turn that off too.
I wait until the dishwasher is full before running it.
I keep the thermastat down low when we aren't home. If I get cold when we are home I grab a throw blanket. In the summer we turn up the air a few degress when we are gone. Run ceiling fans year round.
We grow a garden in the summer. We can and freeze the vegggies.
We save change in a jar. It adds up quick. Great for date nights or to put towards large purchase.
Hubby just reminded me of my car. It's looking bad, but runs fantastic. It has over 130,000 miles on it. So I'm avoiding the car payment.
We wash out plastic baggies to reuse them.
We buy in bulk and divide it up into several meals. And we cook this way too. Cook up two meals and freeze one to avoid that eating out because we don't feel like cooking. It's already made.
I make Iced tea and keep it in the fridge. Cuts down on the amount of pop that is consumed.
Add a splash of water to shampoo, liquid soap to get that last little bit out.
I turn bottles upside down or on its side to get the rest of lotion out of the bottles.

1) Iron my own shirts
2) Don't use my cell phone if I can wait 30 minutes until a land line is available.
3) Fix a simple meal at home instead of eating out.
4) Prepay when possible - for example, its one number if you pay for a year at the gym in advance; you also pay interest if you sign a contract and make monthly payments.
5) Drive a ten year old car with 187K miles on it.
6) Don't waste money washing the car. (I'm supposed to worry what you think?)
7) Take a lunch to work instead of eating out.
8) Re-use plastic sandwich baggies.
9) Never run the dishwasher unless it is full.
10) In the winter keep the house just a tad cooler than I would prefer and in the summer, just a tad warmer.

I write out a check for my son's college fund before anything else each month. I should do the same thing for my IRA, but I'm trying to pay off 2 credit card bills first. That, however, gets a big chunk of money - typically about 10-15 times the minimum payment.
Other things we do - use coupons, take smaller vacations, buy generic goods.

There is just one thing you need to know & that is to spend less than you earn.
Do it any way that works for you. You make the choices on every thing you buy or don't buy. Just don't spend money you don't have.
Its call budgeting.
