It's not THAT much shorter. But it was chosen because we used to celebrate Lincoln's birthday as a national holiday and his birthday is in February. Now we've combined it with GW's bday and call it "Presidents day" and much of the meaning is lost...except in Illinois where they still celebrate Lincoln's birthday as a holiday. But it's a wonderful way to get through the middle of the winter with something fun and very interesting...not to mention colorful. So it stuck.

Well the best way to look at it is because there's nothing else going on in February except for Valentine's Day. If it were December, you have Christmas. The summer months no one is around watching TV to really notice the information on it. It doesn't matter what time of year, most people don't actually go to the presentations.
February is a good month because kids are in school the whole month, so they can learn about black history. It is also a time when people can be inside and watch shows about it on TV. I think it's a perfect time for it.

It really doesnt matter that the shortest month is "black history month" Its more important on how you celebrate it...
If you continue to ridicule the blacks, then even a "black history year" would be of no meaning to you
But if you really respect Black ancestors, every day of the year is a "black history day"
Its just like "gift doesnt matter the feelings behind it does"

Probably because February contains Lincoln's birthday and Lincoln was the one who made the Emancipation Proclaimation.
