I am supposed to write a paper for my child psychology class about a controversial topic. So far I came up with this: "psychiatric drugs and children" but still thinking of something else. Does anybody have some suggestions or ideas to share with me? Thanks a bunch!

what about the learning of aggressive behaviors through the observation of role models??

here's the classic [read: groundbreaking] article on the topic:

then you can get into cartoon characters, toys and video games -- not to mention parents, pop icons and athletes...good luck

If you ask me, I will think again, perhaps you or someone else, make an error in the order of words?, "psychiatric drugs and chindren"?, could it be Children's,?or "psychiatric drugs in childrens"?, the last assumtion which included and replaces the word "AND" for "IN", is not likely to be, though it shows (at least to my perception) base in the issue at hand, that to help a young and yet, unformed beutiful mind as is that of a chield, with drugs? it will mean to kill some of the most valuable substances that have giving that young person, individual, people, genious or some perhaps crazy moron?????, that unvalance attitude that seams to be non-compatible with some of the already corrupted rules of this a/o any other so call well form Societyies!, of our's. Drugs to treath and or avoid helping a young mind are to my knowledge unnecessary, specially while we are steal conscious we are talking about a younger mind, and a younger generation. That by all means if we base our self in the evolutionary process of life, existence a/o Life-existence for the matter, it doesn't seam to adapt to the theory and theories of non- believers in one God a/o intelligent design? Though Evolution to my knowledge, specially of the mind, it has a lot we can't yet understand, commomnd sense tell me, that a drug can't fix but, make this process of drugs been use to treath the mind, a retroces i the Evolution of man-kind, and this simply because no one in this world can assure the point where crazineess begins and where Intelligence end.<< as an oppinion of the World we live on it, that is my oppinion, which mean I refuce to treath my chield an any other young mind the way we think we can treath the already crazy alcholic and depravated side humans are achievers of in this world of our's.>> Again this is just the way I see it>>if you ask me?

One thing that was brought up a lot in my child psychopathology class is the "pathologizing" of children. When children present for children, parents usually complain about odd or deviant behavior and seek someone to "fix" their child and make the problem go away. They are sometimes looking for a label or diagnosis and a quick fix. However, it has been my experience, that sometimes, it is the parents that are the problem. So, who deserves the diagnosis, the parent or the kid? Very often, the child gets the diagnosis.
Please do not misinterpret what I am saying. Sometimes, there are some children that have a lot of problems and their parents are doing everything right. But sometimes, it is the parents looking for someone to fix their kid. For example, one mother brought her son in to see me. The boy was defiant and "needy." When I asked the mother about the time she spent with her son, it was pretty much non-existent. She didn't play with him. She didn't talk to him (except to yell at him). She never praised him. She gave him way more responsibility than a child his age could handle. When I asked her if she would be willing to attend family therapy, she asked, "Why? I want him to talk to someone."
You can research on subjects, such as self-fulfilling prophecy, the stigma of mental illness in children, etc.

Are some children predisposed to homosexuality through genetics, or is it a learned behavior?

Are children predisposed to homosexuality through nature vs nurture?

False Memory-- use the case of the children at the childcare center where they accused the workers of molesting them. And people were outraged when they learned that it was possible that the psychs might have manipulated the questions.

I've always been interested in conduct disorder and oppositional defiant disorder. What makes a child "go bad?" Is it nature, nurture, or both? Can a child be born bad? How well does conduct disorder in childhoood predict antisocial personality disorder or psychopathic personality disorder in adolescence and later into adulthood?

I'm a psychology major and what I would look into would be: - Personality disorders (should they be part of the DSM?) - Look at efficacy for psychotherapies or drugs Ex: CBT or Risperidone etc - Etiologies of different disorders - Whether DID, gambling, or sexual disorders should be part of the DSM
