Of course not - she can sing whatever will show off her voice at the best advantage (though any pronouns are usually swapped around so that the song can still make sense.)

Take care Lx

yes, i sang very well as a school kid, won a few competitions too; sang at most of our and friends' parties. Later at University too. I enjoyed singing and sang almost all day to myself, didn't matter what i was doing. But when i lost my Dad and soon after that my Mum - that was the end of my singing, somehow. I can hardly find my voice these days.

no, it all depends on what your range is. a low alto, high alto, soprano or high soprano, some women can even sing barotone. find a song that fits your range. i am a soprano that ranges from high soprano to high alto but a soprano tone comes more natural. hence i am a soprano. find a song that fits your voice and your personality. trust me i HAD to do the solo ensemble my chorus instructor wouldn't let me not do it. an i got first place. she wanted me to do a song that was made for high sopranos and i chose "My Favorite Things" from the Sound of Music because i was terrified!!!and it fit well. don't worry you will be great. the best thing to do is to focus above everyones heads or on a spot where you can't see them because seeing their reactions if you mess up might make you mess up more.

no, the song selection is up to the singer, but it's best if the song suits the tone of the singer and the pitch for some guy songs might be a little deep for ladies. however, if she's up for it, its ok to sing them.

Not really. I suppose it all depends on the song. If the song makes a direct reference to a woman, it's probably best to be sung by a guy. anything else is fair game.
