Me - I teach my kids to learn from their mistakes and solve their own problems (with my support of course). Who else is doing that these days ? Not many I can tell you.

Do not follow the masters but find out where they were heading and get there yourself, is my modified version of your motto.
I read Fritjof's 'The Tao of Physics' recently and it led to his other books and others, etc., and it gave me a new systems, ecological outlook on life. So, for me now, it's relooking at the paths I've taken, and the destinations they got me too, with a brand new toy - boy, it's a fascinating new Universe with a new life.
