There are many reasons your lymph nodes may be swollen and they aren't always cancer. Viral diseases such as mono and HIV and even chicken pox can cause lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes). Bacterial diseases such as streptococcal diseases and gonorrhea and lymphogranloma venereum and treponemal diseases can also cause lymphadenopathy. Even Cat scratch fever can cause it as well. A biopsy of a node may be necessary and a bone marrow biopsy may follow depending on what is found, but I would suggest that you first have some other bloodwork and I would bet that your doctor will want that as well. you may be referred to a subspecialist depending on what is found. Medicine is also an art as well as a science!
GOOD LUCK!

Edit; Strept, cat scratch fever, mononucleosis and chicken pox are not STD's, but there may be many causes of lymphadenopathy was my point. Have they discussed with you the possibility of a lymph node biopsy yet?
