Do you mean BMW Mini vs. Real Mini or BMW 1 Series vs. BMW Mini or BMW 1 Series vs. Real Mini.
I'd rank them in this order (Best - worst)
BMW Mini (Cooper)
Real Mini
BMW 1 Series (Just by a Ford if you can't afford a proper BMW)

It all depends on what you want. Old Original Mini, Fab car, real fun but pack a mac as you will be standing at the side of the road quite a lot. BMW Mini not for the purist but for a woman alone a much safer option, and still fun to drive. BMW Series 1 what is the point, go and buy a top of the range VW Golf, and spend less on the badge, and this from a self confessed badge snob.

I think you are calling the Mini1 a BMW 1 series ? If you are I agree the original is best.
Mr Isigonis would be rolling in his grave as the new car doesn't fulfil any of the original designs briefs - and it's not Mini. In 30 years we will have forgotten about BMWs poor offering and still love the original.

Assuming you are talking about the Mini made by BMW, I'd go for that over the 1 series, purely on looks. The 1 looks fairly ugly in my opinion.
Both cars are not very practical, the boots being very small, and both seem poorly packaged.
Me? I'd get a Suzuki Swift Sport. Looks like a "Mini", but much more practical (and cheaper).

I'm in the USA so I never heard of a BMW 1 series until now. I looked it up on BMW UK. It looks like any other BMW. Quite frankly....the Mini wins, either the original or the BMW version. I've driven the Cooper S BMW version, test drive. That was the wildest car I ever drove and the most fun. :D I've never driven the original Mini but my dad tells me its like driving a go kart...his brother had one.

The BMW mini is too big but drives as a modern car should. The old mini is quite frankly out of date now, bouncy, and uncomfortable to drive over a long distance if you are more than 5 feet 6 inches tall.A mid sixties Cooper S has qualities that make you forgive it though.I agree with "Citizen" that the Suzuki is more minilike than the BMW.

Since BMW owns Mini, I am sure that both cars are reliable. If you want something to definitely stand out and impress both fans and non-fans of the best German company, go for the 1-series. If your looking for something that is compact but will give you more room, go for the 1-series.

I'd go for the Mini. For the 1 series you pay a premium for the badge.
