Why are you not in Tehran or Islamabad or Medina marching in the streets proclaiming the injustices to women there? If you really believe in the cause, stand up and be counted by taking these governments to task by denouncing the floggings , raperooms, and circumcisions these monsters do in the name of Allah? Come to think of it, I can't recall feminists protesting in Washington, London or Paris, about the abuse Islamosists seem to openly get away with in the land of the Koran. What is their real agenda if they refuse to speak out on this barbarity?

Wright sense: why SHOULDN"T the protest the Sharia? Why would you want to protect the terror of Islam?

Jayelle: why are Jane Fonda and Hillary Clinton not rounding up protesters OVER there to shout down the evils woman endure from this barbaric system? What good does it do to give it lip service here? We are not under the Sharia in the States?

Rebecca: if you are going to think globally and act locally, why not act locally in the Mideast? The woman over there need your help and guidance. Why not go and help them personally?

Don't be silly, we can't just take a flight to Baghdad and start marching around. To see what feminists are doing on an international level, go here:

Here in France, the Islamic head scarf is not allowed in school, and Islamists who perform female genital mutilation on their daughters go to jail or are deported. It is a start.
But you can't expect western women to change Muslim countries. It has to come from within, and indeed, there are more and more Muslim feminists. The only thing we in the west can do for women, for example, in Afganistan, is to help them with health, education, and security. No march on Washington by a bunch of American women is going to impress the Taliban.

Feminists *do* speak out in America. The Feminist Majority was attempting to help the women oppressed by the Taliban long before 9/11. Womens' E-News provides an Arabic website in order to encourage Muslim women who want to challenge these practices. There are also Middle Eastern feminists speaking out against these practices, at great risk to their own and their families' lives. It seems like you want to reduce feminism to one cartoonish thing, or call feminists hypocrites. You don't know what you are talking about.

Why should just feminists protest the fact we turned Iraq into a theocracy with Sharia law the top law of the land?
