I am writing a college essay, and I need to know the main reason why high school is needed, and why there are mandatory classes.

Because Parents in this society no longer do their jobs so schools have to make up for it. Also in order to have a chance at becoming a productive citizen today, you have to have some form of education. High School or GED.

1. basic educational needs are met
2. socialization
3. preparation for college (for some)
4. preparation for meeting goals and expectations after graduation
