DO NOT get real player! Real player ( Sorry for that yellin' but i hate Real player).

What you need is a good codec pack . K Lite Mega Codec pack is a good choice. It has got Real alternative and Quick Time alternative and all the codecs you could need. So you can play all the media files you have in one player. Download it from

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

and use the standard installation.

Its free

Its spamfree. Popup less and can actually be removed from your system. Real entangles itself very securely in your registry, Hard to get rid of Sometimes. Real is like, full of popups, unless you plan on buying it, Wich I never will.

EDIT_ VLC Player is nice as well, but might not be able to play some Real media formats. VLC plays anything- well, almost anything.

Ahh, I did the same things, only a couple of days ago! Is this episode in .rmbv format? Mine was an i was like, "arrgh! it wont play properly!"
Then i worked out that all you have to do is download realplayer! As that is the corresponding player.
Go to:
http://www.download.com/RealPlayer/3000-2139_4-10255189.html
(this is where i downloaded it! So it definitley works!)

Hope it helps!

Normally the animes for downloads are only able to play on Real Player. I downloaded quite a few and almost all of it can only be played using Real Player. Example .mpeg or .avi files. I think the anime you downloaded is either of these two formats..

It probably depends on the file type. Windows Media Player doesn't play all file types out there. Apple quick time should play .mov and .mp4 files. Divx will play some files Windows won't. VLC Media player plays several file types Windows won't. All the one's I mention you can download for free.

You should install a codec pack. I recommend this one:

Then you will have all the audio and video codecs you need to play back anime episodes in the windows media player.
