why did american farmers manufacturers and investors favor expansion overseas?

less restrictions, cheaper labor, less taxes. It seems a little shortsighted since they dont pay overseas employees enough to buy the product they make, not that most of them need or want it anyway, and everyone in america is now unemployed and cant afford to buy anything anyway except with some credit card they dont intend on paying off.
