They took the red line out of the sport. That's all you need to know about hockey. With one fell swoop, they took 75 years of tradition, threw it right out the window and said "hey everybody, this Canadian-American hard hittin' style is passe, people want to see forgeiners from overseas skate around in circles like the Ice Capades" and there you have it. If they dont fire Betteman and fire him RIGHT NOW you will see Donald Trump or some other smart businessman start an alternative professional league and go back to regular hockey rules and close the NHL for good. Yes, its gotten that bad.

I am....can we get Gary Bettman out of here already? What a pathetic schedule he has come up with. Wow, my beloved Sharks get to play the Kings and Coyotes a gazillion times but I won't see Crosby, Ovechkin, or the Sabres for a couple of years. Then there was the All Star Game fiasco. Who the heck watches the game during the week? Not to mention, there really was no sports game that weekend since the Super Bowl was the following week, so why not schedule it on that Sunday? 76% drop in ratings says it all. Then not only is it on the weekday, but the NHL is televised on the Versus network? How many people even have that channel? There was a time when NHL was watched by more people than the NBA was. Oh yea, that was also the pre-Bettman era.

You are aware that the reason the Devils only attract 10,000 fans a game is because they play a low scoring defensive style right? Thats the way they have ALWAYS played the game. I'm really not sure how you get your basis for saying "this sport is done" by one teams fan base??? If you had any clue what you were talking about, you would know that most teams average between 14,000 and 18,000 a game.

You seem to be someone who just doesn't like the sport of hockey? Which is fine, you are entitled to your opinion. I just can't understand for the life of me why you continue to come into the hockey questions forum and continue to bash the sport that most of us really enjoy? Is your life really that boring and pathetic?

Hockey has been and always will be a northern regional sport. That's why it's a natural in Canada and northern US markets like NY, Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Minnesota. Also northern Europe. For the same reason it's a bust in the southern US where games like baseball, basketball, football can be played outside the whole year. For hockey you need cold weather, or else an arena, ice time. Hockey should stick to its northern roots. The rest of the world doesn't want it.

As a Devils fan I need to speak up. yes, the team's attendance has always been a bit of a problem. I hope that by moving to Newark that will help the attendance.

Say what you want about the defensive-minded approach, but three Cups, a Hall of Fame goaltender with respect throughout the league and players who play as at TEAM, a rarity these days, proves that this is a correct way to play. A lot of teams say they're a team, but few actually do. I'm not a Patriots fan but they certainly win by playing as a team. I'm not a San Antonio Spurs fan but they win by playing as a team. The Pistons too.

Well I'd blame it on 2 bad teams playen. Who wants to see the Islanders and Devils? Apparently only 10,000 people. Hockey as a whole is not done, I just blame it on 2 crappy teams. Look at Buffalo. You cant get a ticket for the rest of the season there, games have been sold out since October. Bad teams don't sell out games, good ones do.

Yea it sucks those two teams dont have any outstanding players. Too bad your not a Penguins fan right now. Hockey is buzzing once again in Pittsburgh. Between Sid 'The Kid' Crosby, Evgeni 'Rookie of the Year' Malkin, Jordan 'I'm only 18' Staal, Marc Andre 'I'm gonna be the best goalie in the league in 2 years' Fluery. Your right, these other teams dont have any new talent becuase the Penguins have enough for the whole league. This team will win the East you watch and learn. Oh yea, they sell out constantly too.

For me, the best kind of hockey was during the late 80's whenever the Oilers and Flames had their playoff "wars". I miss the old gritty style of play. The way it is now, even women can play in the league. Look at Sid Crosby, could you see him making it in the 70's?

The Kid makes Ron Duguay seem like Ted Lindsay.

You get bad fan base when your team sucks. Atl is doing good with 18,000 at every game. Some should stop putting down the NHL in the south because last I checked it was doing a lot better then most the north...

Maybe you should be bashing the missing fans for your great 'rivalry' game. Hockey is continually evolving - for good and bad - but it is still my sport. If you dont like it, go watch soccer or bowling.
