I like the loose. makes my skin look softer, and covers more imperfections. with the pressed you have to rub it on your face and it can take your base off, with loose you just pat it on

There are good and bad loose and pressed powders. It depends on how finely milled the powder is in the first place. Try all powders in the store on the back of your hand and you will instantly feel a fine powder as it will be sooooo soft.
Decide what skin you have; oily, dry, normal, older skin, etc. For dry skin a powder of any kind can be difficult. Oily takes powder really well and older skins must always have the finest powders as the lines are emphasised.
The others are all correct in saying a good brush is everything and can make any powder apply like it's Chanel! Pressed is great for carrying in your bag but as most people will tell you, loose it not great for daytime touch-ups as its a bit messy.
So to conclude the right powder for the right job is essential and if you can identify what you want from a powder you will be able to decide if loose or pressed is for you.

Loose powder - to set make-up and reduce shine.
Pressed powder - to touch up or can even be used on its own without foundation.
I have used both and find the important thing is to get the shade right. Translucent is usually best but can occasionally make you look chalky and very matt. Try to get a colour of powder which is not going to alter you foundation colour but just be applied ontop to set it. Personally weither loose or pressed I use cotton wool to apply it. Either cotton pads or loose cotton rolled into a ball. Rub this over the pressed or dab into the loose and then dab all over the face lips and finally the eyes. Then use a large brush to brush off the excess powder and off you go with the rest of you make-up application. Use cotton wool as explained to apply loose powder underneath the eyes but using quite alot so you actually see a layer sitting on the skin. Then apply eye make and if any darker powdered eyeshaow falls onto this area, simply brush away all the powder once eye makeup is complete and you still have perfect foundation and powder. Applying powder lightly to the eyes and lips will also help this makeup to last longer.
You really only need to used the pressed powder to retouch through the day if you find you get ver shiney or makeup doesn't really last long on your skin type. Hope this helps!

I personally like loose powder better. You usually use a brush for application, and it just seems to turn out smoother and can look more natural. The only problem its the mess,it is not useful for on the go.What I would reccomend is buying loose and pressed (in the same color and by the same manufactuer if possible) applying the loose powder at home and taking the pressed powder with you bring along a brush to apply it with when using the pressed also.Another goo thing to keep in mind for keeping you look naural, buy good quality brushes, they will last you almost a life time and ensures even application...Good Luck!

Loose powder is great, much more control over how you apply it.
Pressed powder is very convenient to take out with you, especially on a night out, it's more discrete. but you can buy some loose powders loaded in a brush, not sure what makes these are though.

Loose powder when applied with a brush always looks natural. The pressed power emphasizes fine lines.

Loose is more natural, you just need to apply it properly. It can cause a powdering/snow like effect on your face if you don't apply it with a proper brush. I personally prefer pressed powder, as I think it's easier to control. Pressed is also easier to buy for a cheaper price, as loose, you sort of need to buy a good brand if you want it to work.

Tes Loose powder is much more natural. For more covered look, then you would want pressed powder, which is foundation in powder form.

Loose is best for a better lighter coverage, but there is a lot of wastage and it is not good for transporting. Use the pressed for touch ups when you are out, but remember to regularly clean the sponge applicator as bacteria builds up otherwise and will cause spots xx

I like pressed--but apply it with a powder brush instead of a sponge. I just think it lasts longer. I like Laura Mercier's transparent pressed powder. It is colorless so it is completely natural looking. But it sets your foundation so nicely and gives your face a flawless look.

Loose powder gives a much more natural finish and helps keep make up in place longer. Its quite difficult to carry round in your make up bag though!
