He definitely should have talked to you about it first. The 2 of you are responsible for the rent, bills, etc and a decision like that should be discussed between you. I think what he did was disrespectful and as you said can also be dangerous when it's over. You aren't over reacting at all.

Been through this - and yes - it is wrong and you are not over reacting.
This is what I did:
Informed them that a key to the appartment came with 1/3 of the bills and rent. If they did not want to pay that then they needed to do something else. (Most of the time they leave, lol)
Personally, I don't like the idea of people I don't know having a key to my home and it's really rude for anyone to force that situation on you.

I guess the first question I would ask is; are both of your names, your roommate and yours, both on the lease? If so, then your roommate should not give a key to ANYONE without first consulting with you. If your roommate is the only name on the lease, then they have every right to do what they did. And if only your name is on the lease, then the roommate would need your permission before doing anything.
I don't blame you for being upset. I would speak to your roommate about it. If something of yours comes up missing, is your roommate going to replace it?

Yes, it's wrong. This is YOUR home too. Any duplicate keys, houseguests, visitors, should be run by you first. Only rent payers should possess a key. I would blast my roommate!

He should have told you - Cos its you & him that live there & pay the rent. .. BUT he didnt & its too late to reverse things now.. So my advise is, speak to him, let him know you didnt like it. But dont get too mad - im sure he didnt realise what he s done.

hell yeah... exs are crazy! You might be putting yourself in danger. And it's kinda uncomfortable to be around someone you don't know and know they have a key to your house and they can come in any time they want
