It depends on the type of work one does. It is not necessary that one becomes demotivated after a hard & honest labour. Example you have a surgeon, when he does a very complicated procedure on a patient and the patients gets well, this does not demotivate the doctor. The other side of the coin is when you work honestly and you do not get paid worth your effort it does demotivate you

Hard work and honesty alone are not enough to keep one motivated.
Listening to negative comments from other colleagues / superiors, even sly gestures and grunts, unspoken tone of voice, all have a deep and serious impact on our morale.
Unfortunately, these have MORE effect on our own slf-esteem, and we can asily get de-motivated evn after a lot of hard work that we honestly put into our labour!

Though they work hard, there is lack of job satisfaction due to the type of work they do. Further their work is not recognised by their Bosses due to internal politics. In most of the big corporate houses, there are certain employees whose only duty is to spy on their colleagues and the Bosses depend on such people for grading their subordinates. In most cases Bosses take credit for success and for failures they blame their subordinates. There is also lack of communication between higher ups and subordinates. I know that certain executives recruit people only with average or below average intelligence, as they always fear of over-stepping their limit.
