If I'm drilling a 2 3/4 inch hole through a filled cinder block wall, where can I expect to hit rebar?

There may not be any rebar in the block wall. If there is rebar it will be in the block voids that have been filled. Drill on the vertical mortar joint (between two blocks). There will be no rebar in this area.

sorry but they do run rebar through block walls and the man who said to drill on the head joint has the best chance of not hitting any. however if your hole has to be in a definate spot the rebar is supposed to be in the center of the core, so 4 inches in from either head joint is where you are most likely to find it. but other masons know that when they put footers in, the rebar is never where the bricky's want it. so pick a spot and drill , what are the odds...oh yeah you may be able to detect it with a stud finder or metal detector if their is no duro wal in the bed joints...also if you are drilling through a filled block drill in the center of the block, that way you know all you will hit is the center web...

The rebar is inside of the holes in the block. It is not in every row of holes so you may not hit rebar at all. You will know when you do because it is very hard and the drilling will get tough. If you hit rebar you should change from a masonry drill bit to a steel drill bit.

Cinder block have what they call cells. There are two in each block (the holes). The rebar is put through the middle of the cells. All ther cells probably won't contain rebar. It's hit or miss. Hopefully it won't be in the way.

You shouldn't, not in cinder block. Cinder block is made such that it should reinforce itself. The holes are offset to provide stability, also making it difficult to run rebar through the holes. Rebar is generally used only when pouring concrete, mostly in walls and pillars, sometimes in floors depending on the need.
