You can get injuries from both gymnastics and karate. Training limits the risk of injury in both sports. As long as you feel your daughter is getting good training from her coaches and that they are making it a safe environment, she should enjoy both. There will come a time when she shows more of an interest in one or the other and the decision will be made.

Gymnastics. Karate, if done properly, as in karate-do, would encorporate not only fighting, but awareness-raising as well. Each movement is paid attention to. You are fully "there" while practicing karate.

Of course, you can bring this type of awareness to gymnastics as well, and many do. However, karate has the tradition of paying attention to everything inbuilt.

Send your kid to Japan, even for just a month. Maybe you can arrange an exchange somehow through her school or something. Almost every place in Japan has a sister city, so you can ask at your city hall if your city has a sister city in Japan. You might be able to arrange an exchange that way.

It will be worth every penny.
