(A transit is when the star is seen highest in the sky, half way between rising and setting). A solar day is the time between successive transits of the Sun. A solar day is 24 hours long, but a sidereal day is only 23h 56m 4s, because as the Earth orbits the Sun, it is seen in a slightly different direction each day. From our point of view on the moving Earth, the Sun seems to drift eastward through the stars.

sidereal is a word relating to astrology,the study of the stars. this word means "of or calculated by the stars".sidereal astrology is the systemof astrology used by some western Jyotish astrologers which bases their interpretation around the use of sidereal zodiac. it was introduced to the western astrologers. it's primary feature is that the signs of the zodiac align to the sky constellation of the same name. the signs run between dates which are different to the tropical zodiac used in the west. for example, Aries is Mach 21- April19 in the tropical zodiac but April14 - May14 in the sidereal zodiac (precise dates may vary dependind on the sidereal system used)

Siderial is study pertaining to astronomical stars. A siderial day is correctly stated as the period of time from one transit to the next. It is more exact than a solar day as we have to rotate 4 minutes more to face the sun due to our path around the sun.
