Sounds to me you have alot of background programs running and running low on memory...
Now days you need at least 512mb to get by...1g is what you really need but it all depends on the budget.
But for now you can try a disk defrag to help put you comp back in order so it doesn't take so long looking for things.
Go to start menu-programs-accessories-system tools...select disk defrag...then should help you out. Until you get more memory do this at least once a week. Also you may have bots and stuff slowing you down...
You could also try running AdAware6 on you comp and delete alot of the crap you get when you visit web sites. You would be surprised home spybots and things like that get on your comp and not knowing.
Hope this helps. :)

I find that pressing the mouse for a few seconds, instead of clicking, does the trick. Next time, instead of just clicking, press it for a few seconds until you get the desired result, it might be a bit quicker. Alternatively, delete a few unwanted files, or run a virus & spyware check.

Chances are, your pc needs "cleaning" -
Apart from hardware inadequacies (running with low memory for your O/S), adware or spyware can slow down your pc, so can too many unwanted programs starting up automatically. Install adaware - the free version from lavasoft.
There are so many causes of a pc running slowly - try this link, it helped me !!
