Many of those bands sucked in the 70's. How many times can you hear Eric Clapton sing "Layla" before it's tiime to smash your head in?

Honestly I haven't reached that point with Layla yet but then again I don't try to overdose on Layla. Then again the MTV unplugged version of Layla would put me over the edge.

Any music past that decade is considered classis. 90's music is now being called classic in some place. I do not think bands from the 70's are bad at all, a lot of great bands came from that era. but i guess what ever era you grew up in is always the best era to you in music, it defines you throughout your life, you always go back and listen to it. As for "Layla" or any song from a certain era such as this era 70's you probably do not like because it does not define you.

Thats funny as ***. True tho all the crap music being made 2day will be labeled classic in 20 years, just goes to show how meaningless labels truly are in the first place. Don't front tho there are some 70's songs that deserve that oft coveted, seldom achieved title of "classic" =] Lets just call good music what it is.

re: here's why george harrison hated it.....
Clapton's close friendship with George Harrison had brought him into contact with Harrison's wife Pattie Boyd-Harrison, with whom he fell deeply in love. When she turned him down, Clapton's unrequited affections prompted most of the material for the Dominos' album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, most notably the hit single "Layla", inspired by the Persian classical poet Nizami Ganjavi's "The Story of Layla and Majnun", a copy of which his friend Ian Dallas had given him; Clapton found a strong similarity between the situation of Layla and Majnun and the one between him and Boyd-Harrison.[15]

Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is considered Clapton’s masterpiece

music is subjective, I think that the reason that so much of the music that was produced in the '70s is considered classic is that the people who listened to it when it was new are still around, and still like it. If the fans of today's music are still around 40 years from now, I'm certain that today's music will be considered "classic"

although alot of good music came out of the 70s, its ridiculous to suggest that just because its old, its good. music doesnt get betterwith age, its just that as time goes by, more crap music is produced.
