I am just like you!
I have all sorts of albums on my CD rack:
REM, SOAD, Radiohead, Rachel Stevens, Nelly Furtado, Jose Gonzalez, Zero 7, Gnarls Barkley, Jack Johnson, OK Go, Green Day, Johnny Cash, etc, etc...
Now you wouldn't expect to see Nelly Furtado on the same shelf as System of a Down. XD
So glad there is someone else out there who has a wide taste of music! :D
I think that's good though, as you are not just restricting yourself to one type of music, and it is easier to mix with people who have lots of different music tastes.
Edit - I feel like listening to Jose Gonzalez now. :)

Yes i listen to everything. All styles of music to me are good. Although I dont use an ipod. My Cd collection is huge. And widely varried in music. I can go from Somthing as heavy as like you said, Metallica and Megadeth. Get Bluesy with Luther Allison, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Got tons of techno and Rap. Just recently as far as buying CDs go. I went from jazz artist Robin Avery, rock band Skid Row and now Manhiem Steamrollers a new age group.

I had a friend who came over once and saw my CD collection. I had an old Kiss album next to the Japanese synthesizer musician Kitaro, and he said "You are one eclectic m***** f*****."
Right now my iPod has 40s exotica music, a couple of James Bond soundtracks, Irish Punk music, early 90s hip-hop, some Richard Wagner and Beethoven, the Dandy Warhols, a Gothic accoustic tribute to Nine Inch Nails, some Jethro Tull, 40s big band/jazz music, a Haitian voodoo drummer CD I picked up, some Monty Python, the 2004 World Bagpipe band championships, and some kickass ska.
Having varying tastes in music is a good thing. Music stimulates the mind, and having different kinds of stimulation is even better because it makes your mind work in different ways. Be proud of your diversity in musical tastes!

Oh yes, my Ipod is full of very eclectic music as well. And frankly I'm quite happy with that. I normally go for the alternative sound, stuff like Babybird, The Smiths, Klaxons, Kaiser Chiefs etc, but admit to having from Dolly Parton to Abba, Garth Brooks to Olivia Newton John, Jose Gonzalez to Manic Street Preachers, Nina Simone to Mika. Loads of Spanish singers (Flamenco, Rumbas etc) I adore absolutely all sorts of music but I have to draw the line at crap like Mariah, Celine etc.

Suppose both me and my husband have. His collection spans Steps to Spiritualised to Evanescence, Belinda Carlise and Oasis. Very queer.
Mine is less random (I'd like to think) but ipod currently contains the following: Deftones, Take That, Crowded House, Mercury Rev, My Chemical Romance, KT Tunstall, Air, Oukast, Gorillaz, Beatles, Verve, Klaxons, Basement Jaxx, Nick Drake, Groove Armada, Mika, Pavement, Gwen Stefani and Wolfmother. Actually, that's pretty random after all...

I love everything from prog rock to reggae to bossa nova to Arabic to psychedelic trance, etc.
There has been a tendency recently for some bands to fuse all kinds of contrasting music.
However... listening to Metallica and Eva Cassidy AT THE SAME TIME might be a bit weird...

I like alot of different types of music too and it's probably because I play guitar. I'll play anything from Chuck Berry, Metallica, Van Halen, Poison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, bluegrass, folk, Irish-Celtic, Beatles, country, and classical music every now and then even. I also play the mandolin, and am just starting to learn how to play the Banjo. Just about everything but rap I like.

Perhaps when you've got a copy of "Tony Savage and Dominic Play the Organ recorded live at the Lido Sun Terrace Cliftonville" parked next to the original Zenzor release of Swans "Filth", you can start thinking you collection is eclectic…

,Nothing wrong with your taste in music, also the intellect and music appreciation evolute with the time, in some more years you will notice that your taste in music have changed over other styles in a refined manner, this cycle will be repeated many times until finally you will remain with one or two of the music style, wish it be classical which is the top, remember that music is an universal form of expression. Must of the people have lived your experience, just follow your instinct and taste it in a free form.
