you're sleeping but semi concious about what's happening around you, you're hearing people talking in the house & you decide its time to get up, but you can't, because you're body is not co-operating. you can't make any of your limbs move & you're yelling for someone to help you, but no words are coming out you're mouth, so its like you're locked in you're body for awhile. Then after awhile of fighting or praying to get up, you do. I want to know if anyone have had this experience & what causes it? Thanks.

Yes, actually used to happen to me a lot when younger. I've heard it can be commonplace for some people.

Usually, it's one part of the brain waking up out of sequence. So you are conscious, but some things, like speech, doesn't work.

A lot of these people feel like someone is sitting on their chest, or they see demons, and this is likely why we have books with those type of drawings.

Point of interest since this happens to me, I have had a number of surgeries where I wake up in the middle of the procedure. Don't know if there is a correlation there.

It is called sleep paralysis. You can do a site search and find a lot of information on it. If you are having a lot of difficulty you should speak to a sleep specialist

You are not alone in this disorder!

NOTE: I found differing diagnoses about this disorder so research many and contrast the similarities before settling on an end result ... including your GP

yes that has happened to me and I'm having trouble finding out what causes it too. I beleve that it is either a matter of sleep loss, or of unsurreal thoughts that cause the brain to think in suspence and also causes the brain to tell the body to lock up and recouperate untill the brain beleves it is safe to function. I think that it is a possum defence thing. I think that it that the brain thinks that the body and itself is in danger so it will lock up

YES!! And it's awful.
I used to think it was just me that had this experience. I've also had nightmares, know I'm a sleep and can't wake up.
I saw a program on this. You body is in REM sleep and is paralyzed. But your conscious mind wakes up.
I pray many nights for this not to happen to me and whenever I do I'm safe. AND when I forget and have had it happen to me I pray in my dream and I wake up!
