The pill injection works well with heavy periods as when i was on it mine went very light or none at all ,also the mirina coil is brilliant for heavy periods I have used both and didn't get any problems with either.

The pill is one of the first things doctors use to ease up heavy periods. There really aren't any pills or medications that don't come with some side effects. But there are many different kinds of birth control pill on the market and you can find the one that works best for you. Everyone is different, you might not experience any side effects.
But of course it's important to make sure there isn't anything that might require surgery or additional medication. The most important thing to remember when you are having problems with your periods is to consult a Doctor as soon as possible.

I have an IUD (coil) fitted which has actually stopped me from having periods. It's a progesterone implant one called Mirena and I had it fitted after the regular coil made my periods very heavy. It only needs replacing every five years and, for me, has had no side effects, in fact, it's fantastic. I know your question was about the pill, but I thought this might be a possibility for you.

Does it have to be a pill? Talk to your GP about having a marina coil fitted. My friend had the same problem and that seemed to have done the trick. Definitely worth a try and no side effects.

I never took a pill for heavy periods, but I do take Midol from time to time. It makes the cramps a bit easier to take.

My GP put me on the Depo injection. This helped me a great deal. However if you're considering children in the near future it may not be the one for you. It can take up to a year for your periods to return to normal after you stop taking it and medical advice says you should wait until your periods are normal before trying to conceive. Otherwise it has worked extremely well for me, in fact it stopped mine almost completely
