If you have missed some periods then your next period may be heavier and longer than the rest. But if you don't stop bleeding that is something serious. I hate seeing a doctor too, but that is your health on the line. I think the pills are less danegrous than not doing anything about it dear. I would contact a doc and every pill has some side effects..but mostly the main reason for the medicine is to make you better. Good luck.

Personally, I have had mine twice in one month before. I too was quite reluctant to go and see the gyno, but in the long run I was very lucky that I did because I had Cervical Dysplasia. It wasn't something serious at first... just something they wanted to monitor. Though even further down the road, I was unlucky enough to have my mildly abnormal cells turn into moderately abnormal so therefore I needed to have a procedure done.

In another case, actually happening to my mother, she bled for two months. Her doctors could not figure out what was wrong. After several tests and hospital stays and visits later it ended up being that she was having an adverse reaction to the birth control that she was on.

I had prolonged periods. They are called Menorrhagia. I had periods that never seemed to end due to endometriosis. You may need to get it looked at to make sure its not something like endometriosis and to make sure its not an STD or anything like that because you could become sterile and not be able to have kids. Here is a website on prolonged periods hope it helps. It will tell you what could be causing it and what will happen at the doctor office. Birth control wont stop your periods for good, but they may lighten them and slow them down.

you should know, my niece had that happen to her and she did not tell anyone for a few weeks. the next thing she knows she is being rushed to the hospital. what happened was, she had an infection that showed no other signs and she was actually bleeding to death. we almost lost her. So, I would say you should have already been to the doctors office! she had no idea it was not really a period! it turned out OK but it was very scary for a couple days there! the docs really did not know if she would live or not. she had lost that much blood!

Have you considered that it may be your contraception, I used to be on the injection and it made me bleed constantly, well over a month. I'd defintely consider going to the doctor, they should be able to find out what is causing it and if it's your contraception suggest an alternative form.

Oh yeah, and even longer.
See your doctor before you become anemic, if you haven't already.
There are pills you could take and if needed a D&C will help too.
The important thing is to find out why you have it so long.
Good luck and feel better.

One of my friends had this and it turned out she had chlamydia, one of the symptoms is prolonged bleeding. You do need to go to the doctors, they are there to help you. If you don't get some antibiotics to clear this us, it can lead to infertility. I can promise you that no doctor will give you anything dangerous, or that you don't want.

If you have irregular periods, the stongest thing they will put you on is birth control. No danger in that.
