I just thought the lighting would look really cool, but don't want to do anything that will harm my little buddies.

i don't think that it will harm your fish...it may render ineffective any medications you have in the water however. I have moonlights on my tank and my catfishe and nocturnal things really like it.

Yes you can use a black light .They only time a black light is really cool to use is for fish that like the dark or to hide .

black light contains some UV radiation which is harmful to all living things in high amounts. Thats why you see them in some places that need low bacteria. You can see them in deli areas. There are even UV alga systems that cut down on alga in your water. Look up the blub on the web and see how much UV output there is. UV turns oxygen into ozone, if you smell ozone then there is too much UV.

It won't hurt them but don't waste your money. Your water is full of funk that will glow under black lights. Try a led spot in different colors from your local petstore instead.

Doubtful if it will hurt them. Make sure you use the regular light during other times tho.

it may cause algea to grow quicker but other than that it didn't cause anything to happen to our tank
