i got a shadow priest only to level 16 right now. i was wondering, are shadow priests good in pvp? better than rogues? thanks!

p.s. if i make shadow priest i will not be forced to only heal in groups right?

It depends on how you like to play. I'm a shadow priest, level 70, so I'm biased. They are really good in pvp. I wouldn't say better than a rogue though, it's about even. I've lost duels to some really good rogues.

To put it in persepective, in pvp a priest can focus on taking two or more people on at once (area fear ftw), while the rogue can typically only take one.

The only problem comes from those who think a priest's only role is to be a healbot. You may get some heat from some instance groups that are a little shy about taking a shadow priest in there. But, you can solo heal an instance as a SP until the 50's. After that, get a druid or shammy to come with you. Thanks to Blizzard for giving them most of the holy priest's abilities anyway, there's really no need to be holy / disc anymore.

I have a 48 rogue (assisination spec) and a 48 Shadow Priest (48 war, 48 mage, 64 hunter, 64 druid) Shadow Priest absolutely deals more damage than any other (while healing yourself with vampiric embrace no less). Plus you can handle more than one attacker with your fear effects. My shadow priest can melt the face right off the opponent before they even get a funny look.
